Grants Available for Artists in Chenango and Otsego County
October 28 – Artists and nonprofits in Chenango and Otsego counties are eligible for funding from the New York State Council for the Arts.
The Earlville Opera announced continued NYSCA funding for the 2023 Broome, Chenango & Otsego Statewide Community Regrants Program. Through this program, nonprofits and individual artists can apply for grants of up to $5,000 each year to help strengthen arts and culture programs in their communities, according to a news release. Applications for Grant Review Committee members are accepted throughout the year. The goal is to make state arts support available to geographically, economically, and ethnically diverse segments of the state’s population. The SCR program has been administered in Chenango County since 1986. The Earlville Opera House has operated the SCR program since 2020. A record $232,500 is available for projects taking place in 2023, according to the release.
The Broome, Chenango and Otsego SCR program offers support in the following categories:
—Community Arts Grants provide support for arts and cultural projects by community organizations, groups, collectives or individual artists.
—Arts Education Grants offer two categories of funding: K-12 school-based projects and after-school and community-based learning. These grants help non-profit organizations, cultural groups, and/or individual artists deliver in-depth arts education projects to participants of all ages.
—Individual Artist Grants provide support for commissioning individual professional artists to create a new work in a community setting.
A series of virtual grant workshops will be held to help potential applicants navigate the process, the statement said. The workshops are free, but pre-registration is required.
