The Houston Rapper, Philanthropist, Presented Key to the City, Mayor Turner’s Personal Day

HOUSTON —Texas Southern University graduate and Grammy Award winner Megan Thee Stallion received some honors from the city of Houston on Sunday.
Megan, whose birth name is Megan Pete, was presented with the key to the city by Mayor Slyvester Turner in a ceremony. Additionally, Turner declared Monday, May 2, 2022 as ‘Megan Thee Stallion Day’ in the city of Houston, which coincides with Megan’s late mother’s birthday.
The artist credits many of his accomplishments to the city of Houston and always makes sure his music and style has a personalized Southern flair.
According to Mayor Turner’s office, Megan was selected because of her philanthropic contributions through her nonprofit Pete and Thomas Foundation.
“I will continue to give back to the city that made me who I am today,” Megan wrote on Instagram.
The foundation was established in honor of his father and mother and focuses on education, housing, health and welfare. As part of her ceremony, Megan presented three people with $5,000 each to help with education, housing and welfare expenses.

“Megan Thee Stallion has an amazing career in entertainment, but we wanted to honor her for what she does offstage to improve the lives of people in underserved communities,” Mayor Turner said. “She helped people after the winter storm of 2021, during the pandemic, and helped people struggling with homelessness. I look forward to seeing her grow as an artist and humanitarian.
