Bruce “Buck” Westerberg – Brainerd Dispatch

77 years old from Merrifield, MN. Passed away on February 11, 2022 surrounded by love and family. Graduated from Richfield High School, 1962. Beloved husband of Nancy (Sandeen-Shelstad). Employed for over 40 years in the beverage industry in the Twin Cities. After retiring in 2006, he moved from Bloomington to Lake Lougee where he was able to enjoy the things he loved while living in the home he had built by hand.
He is known to friends, family, neighbors and the congregation of Crosslake Lutheran Church for his generosity and heart of service. He shared some of his gifts in retirement as a supervisor in Pelican Township and was active in The Sons of Norway. Buck loved the great outdoors, especially with his family and friends. He had a deep love for his rescue dogs (he didn’t know who rescued whom). He loved woodworking and could fix just about anything. Predeceased by parents Spencer and Clarice and sisters Judy Mosley and Bobbie Bergmann. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his children Ann Hoefer (Dan) Amy Westerberg (Clay) Brad Westerberg (Joy), his stepchildren Karolyn Shelstad-Otto (Paul), Tom Shelstad (Erin) and his “almost son” Derk Renwick, 6 grandchildren, brother Brian Westerberg (Dede) and beloved dog Molly. Buck was the nicest, most patient guy you could ever know. Having him as a friend was truly a gift. In remembrance of Buck’s life, the family requests that charitable donations be made to the Babinsky Foundation in Pequot Lakes, MN (animal rescue) or Crosslake Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held at Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake, MN on Friday, 10/6 at 11:00 a.m. A memorial gathering will be held Wednesday, 6/8 at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Bloomington, MN.
