Jimmy Carr under fire for ‘beyond tasteless’ Holocaust joke in Netflix special

Comedian Jimmy Carr has been heavily criticized for a ‘disgusting’ and ‘beyond tasteless’ joke made about the Traveler community and the Holocaust on his new Netflix show.
Anti-hate groups including Hope Not Hate and Holocaust Educational Trust condemned the comic for the comments and urged Netflix to remove the offensive material.
Nadia Whittome, the Labor MP, accused the streaming giant of “legitimizing and perpetuating racism” by airing the show, titled His Dark Material.
In the show, which aired on Christmas Day but only just gained attention after a clip was posted online, Mr Carr said: “When people talk about the Holocaust, they speak of the tragedy and horror of the loss of six million Jewish lives to the Nazi war machine.
“But they never mention the thousands of Gypsies who were killed by the Nazis.
“Nobody ever wants to talk about it, because nobody ever wants to talk about the positives.”
The joke was met with “shouting and cheering from the audience”.
The 49-year-old, known for his stand-up comedy and roles in shows such as 8 out of 10 cats, issued a ‘trigger warning’ to the audience at the start of his hour-long special, admitting his performance contained “terrible things”.
In a synopsis of the program, which aired on Christmas Day, the special jokes are said to be “career endings”.
The Auschwitz Memorial condemned Mr. Carr in a tweet addressed to its 1.2 million followers:
