#GivingTuesdayKaty Celebrates Community Philanthropy at Events in November

In 2012, the #GivingTuesday movement was launched to encourage people to give back to the community during holiday shopping. Starting November 6, several Katy charities will come together for #GivingTuesdayKaty to encourage philanthropy in the community.
To celebrate the #GivingTuesdayKaty movement, the local #GivingTuesdayKaty committee will lead several events that will be held throughout the month of November to build awareness, volunteer engagement and fundraising efforts for operating nonprofits. in Katy and neighboring communities, said Sarah Beaton, coordinator of #GivingTuesdayKaty.
On November 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Westlake Volunteer Fire Station, located at 19636 Saums Road, will be hosting a #GivingTuesdayKaty chili prep event. Participating nonprofits will be on hand to publicize their efforts, and the fire department will host fire safety demonstrations. Santa will also be on hand for photos, and there will be music, games, vendor stands, photo ops and other fun family activities and competitions.
Several nonprofits, including Abigail’s Place, Joe Joe Bear Foundation, Katy Responds, Katy Area YMCA, Stuff the Sleigh, and The Arc of Katy, have already registered to participate. Other nonprofits will likely join the movement in the coming weeks, Beaton noted.
Abigail’s Place provides emergency housing for single mothers facing homelessness, providing a place of hope and healing as they transition to permanent housing.
Katy Responds is dedicated to disaster relief and relief.
The YMCA serves the community through a variety of programs and services focused on youth development, healthy lifestyles and social responsibility.
The Joe Joe Bear Foundation provides teddy bears to critically ill children for comfort. Teddy bears emotionally help children get through the pain and fear of major medical crises.
Stuff the Sleigh is dedicated to helping children and their families experience the joy and spirit of Christmas by giving year-round to children affected by cancer and blood diseases.

âThe past 18 months have been difficult for Katy-area nonprofits as they have to pivot their programs and fundraising activities in response to the global pandemic,â said Beaton. â#GivingTuesdayKaty is an opportunity for nonprofit organizations to work together and engage families, individuals and businesses in our community to be ambassadors, volunteers and funders to support the good they make. “
