MacKenzie Scott and Dan Jewett, Pledge

The 21st richest person in the world, MacKenzie Scott, has pledged an additional $ 2.7 billion to various charities.

In one blog post Announcing her latest act of generosity, the billionaire ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos explained that she wanted to give to those “who have been historically underfunded and neglected.”

She chose 286 organizations that focus on racial inequalities, as well as arts and culture, and education.

Since his divorce from Bezos in 2019, which saw him receive a 4% stake in Amazon, Scott has become famous for his charitable giving.

In August 2020, GNN announced that it was donating $ 1.7 billion to various nonprofits. Then in December, GNN revealed that it donated an additional $ 4 billion to deserving causes.

For her final act, she worked with researchers, advisers and her new husband, Seattle science professor Dan Jewett, to decide which nonprofits to give gifts to.

“In this endeavor, we are ruled by the humble conviction that it would be better if disproportionate wealth were not concentrated in a few hands,” she writes in her blog, “and that the solutions are better designed and implemented. implemented by others. “

Scott is not the only billionaire to have promised to give up his fortune. The Giving Pledge, an initiative started nearly a decade ago by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, has been signed by 204 high net worth individuals, including Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg and Airbnb co-founder Vrian Chesky. Jeff Bezos did not sign the pledge, but Scott and his partner Dan both have it, with a pledge to give “until the safe is empty.”
