PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WRBL) – A local non-profit organization works to silence the stigma surrounding mental health. A youth mentoring organization called SupporTeen Youth hosted a mental health awareness event alongside “Unfurl LLC” at Foundation Point Church in Phenix City.

The event ran from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and featured speakers, panelists, and mental health resources and information. The goal was not only to let young people and community members know that they are not alone when it comes to mental health, but also to end the negative stigma associated with needing help and the fact. of not going well.

Organizers of the event shared that it was a way to spark a conversation about mental health and share important resources with the community.

“So we wanted to take the time to pull together our resources in all areas, like counselors and therapists, and just get a compilation of information and share it with our community.” said Candice Davis, owner of Unfurl LLC.

Marcus Gibson, Executive Director of the SupporTEEN Youth Organization, explained that in addition to resources, it is just as important to let young people in our community know that they are not alone.

“We also wanted to make sure that our young people know this and that people know that we are there for them and that there are resources here for them to fight this battle that they might have.” Gibson said.

Speakers at the event shared their own struggles and experiences with depression and anxiety. Food and drinks were also available during the event.
