PALMER – A 54-year-old woman has been charged with murder in connection with the February 8 homicide on Fox Street in Palmer, according to Hampden District Attorney’s Office Anthony Gulluni.

Brenda Mayhew of Palmer was arrested Tuesday night at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where she had been a patient since the morning of the murder.

She is due to be brought to justice on Wednesday in Palmer District Court.

Authorities have yet to publicly identify the homicide victim. According to the prosecutor’s office, the name is expected to be released to the press on Wednesday after the arraignment.

The Palmer police were called to the residence just after 8 a.m. The police found the front door blocked. After entering, they found a dead person.

They found two other people in the house, one of them seriously injured. The person was taken to hospital for treatment, authorities said. Another person present was taken to hospital for evaluation.

The homicide is the first in Palmer since December 13, 2018, when Michael Strindberg was beaten to death with a poker during an argument on River Street. Robert Nompleggi is charged with murder and is awaiting trial.

Fox Street is a residential dead-end street on South Main Street, just past the South Main intersection above the train tracks.

Correction: Officials provided an incorrect spelling of the accused’s name in an initial press statement. The story has been updated.
